Speaker calls illegal picketing parliament building by political leaders

Illegal picketing of the parliament building by political leaders took place yesterday. We all saw it live on air. If you want to express protest, there are peaceful forms for that, said the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, at the plenary session.

Papuashvili also spoke about the injuries inflicted on Levan Khabeishvili and noted that the investigation will draw legal conclusions on everything.

“As for our colleague, Levan Khabeishvili, he was injured yesterday. You know, an investigation into this incident is underway. Yesterday, we witnessed a demonstration that politicians prompted to escalate into violence. The Interior Ministry reported today about the violent nature of the rally yesterday. Last night, there was an illegal picketing of the parliament building by political leaders. We all saw it live on air. It is an illegal act. If you want to protest, there are peaceful ways to do so. When your protest deviates from peaceful forms, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is obliged to intervene. Therefore, I would like to thank the Ministry of Internal Affairs for ensuring the restoration of order.

As for Levan Khabeishvili, we all watched live on air what happened and how it happened, there will be an investigation and Levan Khabeishvili will also have the opportunity to speak about the issue within the investigation. Everything was filmed, we all saw what happened live on air, everyone will draw their own conclusions, and the investigation will draw legal conclusions,” Papuashvili said.

At the same time, Papuashvili called on the opposition MPs to refrain from shouting and be correct.

“These reactions of yours also show that you cannot adequately react to anything. Also, please, everyone be constructive in the discussion today. Yesterday, several MPs threatened the bailiffs with spraying on them, and so on. Therefore, everyone, stay correct and do not shout from your seats. I will warn you and if you don’t obey the rules, I will expel you from the hall. Stay within the framework of the regulations”, said Shalva Papuashvili.
