Speaker believes it is important to remember that ex-President Saakashvili is foreign national linked to foreign intelligence
“When we speak of Mikheil Saakashvili, we must not forget that he is a foreign national who is fully linked to the special services of a foreign country,” stated Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, during a briefing.
“He was smuggled into Georgia in 2021 as part of an operation organised by Ukrainian special services, aimed at inciting unrest within Georgia. Evidence clearly shows the direct involvement of Ukrainian intelligence. It is now evident which foreign agencies they are connected to. It’s a fact that Saakashvili is acting on their instructions, initially from Ukraine, and now from prison. As for attempts to normalise any form of violence, what we are witnessing are deliberate efforts, including from outside the country, to incite unrest. Anyone encouraging violence is, in effect, complicit in it,” Shalva Papuashvili stated.
According to the Speaker of Parliament, the radical opposition finds itself in a desperate predicament.
“Their primary problem is their total dependence on foreign benefactors, who are making mistake after mistake. They abandoned their mandate, were cast onto the streets, and are now bearing the consequences. They have fallen into a spiral from which there is no escape. That’s why the October 4 elections are so crucial. They will mark a turning point, distinguishing between democratic and undemocratic forces. It will be a dividing line between those willing to participate in the democratic process and those who will remain anti-democratic after October 4. I’m referring to parties that refuse to take part in the elections, those calling for violent actions, the so-called NGOs that declare they will boycott the elections and support violence, and media outlets that endorse and promote such violence. They are actively implementing these plans,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
