Speaker: Attacks on Georgian democracy from abroad should stop, Georgian people's choice to be recognized
“The attacks on Georgian democracy from abroad must stop, while the choice of the Georgian people expressed through elections should be recognized,” said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili at the briefing.
According to the Speaker, the final report of the October 26 Georgian parliamentary elections published by the OSCE/ODIHR “breaks” five lies of the radical opposition, NGOs, President Salome Zourabichvili and their foreign “motivators” with which they attempted to undermine Georgian democracy and steal the choice from over 1.200.200 voters.
“The OSCE/ODIHR final report is a watershed, based on which all harmful speculations regarding the integrity of the elections should end. The opposition received its share in the government, the number of mandates, as the Georgian voters considered as required. The attacks on Georgian democracy from abroad must stop, while the choice of the Georgian people expressed through the only legitimate way – elections – should be recognized,” he said.
The Speaker thanked the OSCE/ODIHR election observation mission delegation for their work.
“Of course, the Georgian government will thoroughly study the findings and recommendations and will continue to cooperate with the OSCE/ODIHR to ensure future elections on the highest level,” he said.
