Social Justice Center Head: Freezing bank accounts means institutional, financial paralysis of NGOs
“Freezing bank accounts means institutional and financial paralysis of organizations. The Georgian Dream wants us to stop assisting citizens and social groups,” wrote Tamta Mikeladze, Head of Social Justice Center non-government organization, on Facebook.
Tamta Mikeladze assessed the Prosecutor’s Office allegations as “absurd.”
“This decision means institutional and financial paralysis of organizations. The Georgian Dream wants us to stop assisting citizens and social groups, pause revealing their crimes, injustice, and cease building solidarity within society.
Several days ahead of the deadline on visa liberalization (before August 31), the decision on the destruction of civil organizations means escalation of relations with Brussels on the part of the Georgian Dream and full sabotage of this process,” Mikeladze said.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, within the framework of an ongoing investigation, decided to freeze bank accounts of seven non-governmental organizations.
