Six opposition parties, namely the United National Movement (UNM), Girchi-More Freedom, Ahali, Lelo, Droa and Strategy Aghmashenebeli signed a declaration of unity.
The declaration released by the UNM reads that the signatories pledge unity before and after the parliamentary elections.
The opposition parties conveyed concern about the government’s latest actions undermining basic democratic values that obstruct Georgia’s EU and NATO integration aspirations. The parties unite around Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili’s proposed Georgian Charter and its goals.
The parties declare that they unite with the aim “to convincingly win in the elections” together with Georgian people, who support Georgia’s European future.
The signatories agreed: to strengthen efforts before the upcoming elections to ensure that no votes are failed and that crossing the 5% threshold does not become a problem; to secure the configuration of the unity no later than July 8 and avoid attacking each other before and after the elections; to counter the Georgian Dream propaganda jointly and agree on the establishment of the coalition for the fulfillment of Georgian Charter points; to take the obligation not to vote for the formation of a government with the participation of the Georgian Dream in the new parliament; to support the united presidential candidate in the presidential elections after the parliamentary elections; to cooperate with civic movements and activists, who struggled for the protection of Georgia’s EU path.
The parties call on Georgians living abroad to mobilize for the vote. They agree on unifying efforts to prevent election fraud and urge Western partners to ensure long-term election observation by the missions of OSCE/ODIHR, EP, CoE and other international organizations.
The signatories invite other opposition parties to join the declaration.
