Share of Caesarian births increases

The share of Caesarian births has increased in Georgia. The 44, 6% of baby deliveries were done with caesarian surgeries in 2017. The statistics were provided by the National Center of Diseases Control. In 2016, 24 461 Caesarian surgeries were conducted that is 43, 7% of the total birth number.

The government activated sanctions for Maternity Houses starting March 1, 2017. Recommendations were given to clinics based on which doctors are obliged to give the information to patients about risks and complications of Caesarian baby delivery.

According to National Center of Diseases Control, the share of Caesarian births in Georgia is three times higher of the standards of the World Health Organization (WTO).
