Self-Governance Committee Chair: Kallas’ statement reflects EU’s attitude

“The statement by Kaja Kallas reflects the EU attitude. Some people could not believe it, asking how it could be possible. But evidently they are on the side of the coup, not on the side of the Georgian people’s democratic choice,” said Irakli Kadagishvili, Chair of the parliamentary Self-Governance Committee.

According to Kadagishvili, EU officials supported people who convened to support the government’s overthrow on October 4, the day of local elections.

“Their attitude toward democracy, values, elections, and the choice of the Georgian people is evident. Their goal is to have a controllable, obedient, and puppet government, where, against the backdrop of global confrontation, Georgia would be used as a frontline of conflict.

They failed, and now, when they are constructing a cable through Georgia in the Black Sea, they do not see the government which is constructing it. Regrettably, the EU officials reached that point, but this is their choice. Time changes, and the absurd that Georgia should connect East and the West, but should remain invisible, will not bring any good to Europe,” he said.

Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, stated ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels on July 13 that implementation of the Black Sea strategy is in full swing and that various countries around the Black Sea are actively involved. However, she said: “We have problems with Georgia – we have no relations with the government. We don’t want to support the government; we want to support the Georgian people. We are also discussing how to do this in the best possible way so that people do not lose faith in the European Union.”
