Salome Zurabishvili, Georgia’s President-elect will pay the first official visit in the status of President to Brussels, Belgium. She will hold meetings in NATO and the European Union.
James Appathurai, Deputy Assistant Secretary General of NATO for Political Affairs and Security Policy and NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, being on an official visit in Georgia, met with Georgian president-elect earlier this afternoon.
“We have met many times before but this will be the first meeting in this status of the president-elect. I want to express NATO’s support to Georgia’s territorial integrity and its aspirations. I read her letter in Financial Times where she clearly stated that she is intended to fulfill the will of the Georgian people that Georgia is integrated into European and Euro-Atlantic structures. We heard this clear message in NATO and now we have to discuss how to reach the target,” Appathurai told journalists before the meeting.
Appathurai has already met with Davit Zalkaliani, Foreign Minister and Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister. He is also scheduled to hold the meeting with Grigol Vashadze, presidential candidate of National Movement Party and representatives of non-governmental organizations.
