Salome Zurabishvili: Georgia is stronger than the neighbor wants it to be, which looks at us with suspicion and threatens

Today, Georgia is much more independent, strong and developed than the neighbor wants it to be, which looks at us with suspicion and sometimes uses the language of threats,  – the president of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili made this statement at the meeting with ethnic Georgians living in Qakh district.

As President Zurabishvili noted, threats from the northern neighbor are heard quite often. According to her, there is an attempt to use the occupied territories for weakening Georgia, however, as she noted, this attempt is unsuccessful.

“Today and yesterday there were still some threats from our northern neighbor. This is the situation, in which we live – pressure, attempts, threats. This is an attempt to use the occupied territories to weaken Georgia, however, this attempt is unsuccessful. Despite all this, Georgia is much more independent, strong and developed than the neighbor wants it to be, which sometimes looks at us with suspicion and sometimes threatens us”, – Salome Zurabishvili said.

“Tbilisi has to decide: either to choose atmosphere of regional wellbeing in the South Caucasus, or a Euro-Atlantic agenda. To do this at the same time is difficult and may bring very serious outcomes. It is clear that if NATO’s military activity will develop in the South Caucasus, sooner or later it will lead to the problem. We remember how the problems of Ukraine started. The issue is the same”, – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin told Kommersant.
