Saakashvili reacts in letter, Personal Data Protection Service launches query into release of ex-president footage

“Yesterday, the system thoroughly unmasked itself for the entire world to see,” Mikheil Saakashvili wrote in a letter after the Special Penitentiary Service released a video recording of imprisoned ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili at Vivamedi Clinic last night.

“I want to appeal to everyone who considers themselves human beings, and I hope for your humanity. Have you ever seen such wildness and dissimilarity in any other state, including Russia? I pity the medical personnel, who have been captured and harassed in every way conceivable by a gang of bandits. Whatever happens to me, give the physicians as little blame as possible and let no one try to wipe their hands. You can execute your proclaimed murder plan, but you cannot break me,” Saakashvili wrote in a letter delivered to the media by his attorney.

Shalva Khachapuridze, the ex-president’s attorney, said the video was released in violation of the law and demanded that the Personal Data Protection Service and the Special Investigation Service investigate the issue because he feels it is criminal conduct.

Meantime, the Personal Data Protection Service has launched a probe into the release of footage of jailed Georgia’s ex-president, Mikheil Saakashvili, at the hospital.

“The Personal Data Protection Service has launched an inquiry into the processing of Mikheil Saakashvili’s personal data through the release of video recordings by the Special Penitentiary Service,” the Personal Data Protection Service said in a statement.

According to the state agency, it will investigate this case within the time frame provided by law and notify the public of its findings.

The Special Penitentiary Service released video footage on December 14th, claiming “high public interest” in the case. The 10-minute video portrays the ex-President in various states of health. Throughout the video, he is also seen arguing with medical personnel and throwing objects at them.
