UNM Chair calls Saakashvili ‘leading pro-western opposition leader’

“Mikheil Saakashvili [ex-President] is the nation’s main pro-Western opposition leader, and our Western partners’ assessments are appropriate,” said Levan Khabeishvili, the chairman of the United National Movement opposition party.

“We should understand that we are not pleased with anyone’s sanctioning. They are simply performing Russian and anti-state work. Instead, we prefer the Russian law be repealed and Ivanishvili and his government refrain from impeding Georgia’s EU path.

Mikheil Saakashvili is the leading pro-Western opposition leader in this country, thus his detention is directly tied to the judicial clan and Russian authorities, and our Western partners’ assessments are appropriate.

Probably, we all understand that Ivanishvili’s government has no partners in the West. Their friends include Peskov, Lavrov, Putin, among others.

Mikheil Saakashvili has many supporters both inside and outside the country,” said Levan Khabeishvili.
