Russian Foreign Ministry calls cyber attack accusations groundless and politically motivated
The Russian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement responding to the allegations on a large-scale cyber attack against Georgia.
The Russian side calls the released information “staged and politically motivated”.
“Noteworthy is the synchronization of the propaganda campaign organized by Washington, London, Tbilisi and others. It took almost four months to try to put blame on Russia for the incident, which allegedly took place on October 28 last year.” – the statement released by Russian MFA reads.
Russian state agency notes that all allegations against the Russian side are still under assumption. The statement notes that the normalization of Russian-Georgian relations is in the interests of the population of both countries, though some forces do not support it.
“It is regrettable that Georgia itself does not want to abandon the line to demonize Russia, to draw lessons from last year’s crisis. All of this casts a shadow over the already complicated bilateral relations. We remain convinced that overcoming disagreements and continuing the process of normalization is in the best interests of Georgian and Russian people. We understand that there are forces, who do not want it at all”, – the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Georgian Foreign Ministry announced yesterday that the cyber-attack of 28 October, 2019 against Georgian websites was planned and carried out by the Main Division of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo responded to the fact and released a statement. “The United States condemns Russian cyberattack against the country of Georgia and calls on Russia to cease this behavior in Georgia and elsewhere”, -the statement reads. The British and several other foreign Ministries also responded to the fact.
