The Georgian Roads Department is intensifying work on the 50.1 km section of the 72-km Pshaveli-Abano-Omalo road to enhance safety.
According to the Roads Department, the project includes restoring the road profile, installing water-conducting and artificial structures, improving traffic regulation, widening the road where possible, and setting up safety barriers.
The Tusheti road improvement is divided into eight sections, with six contracts valued at 51.6 million GEL already signed. The remaining 15 km will be addressed in stages. The initial 22.5 km will be asphalted, while other sections will be repaired and upgraded as needed.
The road, connecting Pshaveli to Omalo via the 2,950-meter-high Abano Pass, was built in the 60s-70s and is accessible for about 4-5 months a year. The project aims to complete the road safety enhancements by 2025.
