Reconciliation Minister holds bilateral meetings with Swiss Ambassadors to Russia and Georgia

The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, Tea Akhvlediani, met with the Swiss Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation, Christina Marty Lang, as well as the Swiss Ambassador to Georgia, Heidi Graus.

During the meetings, the State Minister expressed gratitude to the Swiss diplomats for their steadfast support of Georgia’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders, and for their active engagement in efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Discussions centred on the serious consequences of the ongoing illegal occupation of Georgia’s Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions, including violations of the fundamental rights of the local populations and attempts to further artificially isolate these areas.

In this context, Akhvlediani emphasised the importance of an appropriate response and sustained, strong support from the international community to protect the rights of those affected by the conflict.

The State Minister also briefed the diplomats on progress made in implementing Georgia’s reconciliation and engagement policies, as well as the long-term vision to improve socio-economic conditions for those impacted by the conflict and to foster dialogue and trust between the divided communities based on shared interests.

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close cooperation moving forward.
