Public Service Development Agency 'considers it appropriate' to terminate Otar Partskhaladze’s Georgian citizenship

Georgian Justice Ministry’s Public Service Development Agency on Wednesday dubbed it appropriate to terminate the Georgian citizenship of the U.S.-sanctioned former Prosecutor General Otar Partskhaladze.

The agency’s remark followed Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili’s statement saying she was “waiting for a decision on the termination of Georgian citizenship for Partskhaladze, which she would immediately comply with.”

The Agency added that the relevant decision had already been sent to the President.

On September 14, the Department of State announced it was designating individuals and entities to impose further costs in response to Russia’s unprovoked war against Ukraine, including a Georgian-Russian businessman Otar Partskhaladze.

National Bank of Georgia (NBG) then said it had altered its regulation in line with the international financial sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, exempting Georgian citizens from being sanctioned without a domestic court judgment.
