Protest on Dadiani Street in Tbilisi demands immediate provision of school building for pupils of school N10
Pupils and parents of School No. 10 staged a demonstration on Dadiani Street in Tbilisi, blocking the thoroughfare in protest.
According to those participating, their primary demand is the prompt completion of the construction of School No. 10. They explained that after a period of online learning, students were temporarily accommodated in the building of School No. 22 on Tsereteli Street. However, they were recently evacuated from there as well, leaving the students without a proper school facility. The parents insist on the allocation of a dedicated building for School No. 10, where students can continue their education in the same shifts as before. They also oppose online learning, asserting that it has no real impact on their children’s education.
A representative of the Ministry of Education was present at the scene and addressed the demonstrators.
“As soon as cracks appeared in the building of School No. 22, part of the school was immediately evacuated, and today the entire school has been relocated from that building. We are awaiting the results of the Samkharauli expertise, which is expected by the end of the week.
The first alternative offered to parents was School No. 190, where transportation would be provided. However, as this is a second-shift school, the parents expressed concerns about switching to the second shift during this period. While we await the expert’s conclusion, the second option is to switch to online learning for a week. Additionally, we are exploring several private premises to lease so that the school can continue to operate in a safe location,” stated the Ministry of Education representative.
The protest on Dadiani Street has now concluded.
