Protest at parliament

A protest rally is underway at the Georgian parliament in parallel to the presidential elections.

The protesters say that the presidential elections are illegitimate since the parliament is illegitimate.

The protest participants criticize the presidential candidate Mikheil Kavelashvili.

“The parliament members secured their mandates through rigged elections. The lawmakers did not hear the people’s voice and intensified sneering with the nomination of Mikheil Kavelashvili for the presidential post.

Today we see sneering at Georgian people when we see the MP, the initiator of the Russian Law. We also see the attempt to establish the opposition in the form of People’s Power party, which is sneering and the Georgian people will not accept that. I want to call on all citizens to join the protest at the parliament,” said one of the protesters.

Representatives of opposition parties joined the protest. Law enforcers are mobilized at the parliament building.

The Electoral Assembly today will elect Georgia’s Sixth President through non-direct rule for the first time. The Georgian Dream (GD) party nominated and endorsed the candidacy of Mikheil Kavelashvili on the position.
