Prosecutor's Office releases statement on activist Nino Datashvili's psychiatric examination

The Prosecutor’s Office responded to the statement of the detained activist Nino Datashvili’s lawyers, and explained that the defence presented documents reflecting Nino Datashvili’s health condition, which indicate psycho-emotional lability as a concomitant disease, and therefore it was considered appropriate to order an examination.

According to the statement of the Prosecutor’s Office, in such cases, a psychiatric examination is always conducted.

“We would like to respond to the public statements made by Nino Datashvili’s lawyers regarding the appointment of a psychiatric examination for the defendant.”

The public is aware that Nino Datashvili is accused of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 353, Section 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, namely, assaulting a public servant – a court bailiff – while performing his official duties.

In this criminal case, the defence presented documents reflecting Nino Datashvili’s health condition, which indicated psycho-emotional lability as a concomitant illness.

Based on the above, since the medical documentation presented by the lawyers spoke about the defendant’s psycho-emotional state, it was considered appropriate to order an examination.

“We would also like to inform the public that in such cases, a psychiatric examination is always ordered,” the statement reads.

On June 21, the Tbilisi City Court ruled imprisonment in the case of civil activist Nino Datashvili as a punishment measure for assaulting the court security officer on June 9 while performing his professional duties.
