Prosecutor's Office charges one person for intentional murder at State University metro station

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has pressed charges against one person for an intentional murder committed under aggravating circumstances.

“According to an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on December 10th, in Tbilisi, at the State University metro station, the accused, completely unmotivated, without any pretext, with exceptional cruelty, in front of metro passengers, struck an unknown person standing on the platform and threw him onto the tracks, during which he was hit by a moving train. As a result of the sustained injuries, the victim died at the scene,” states the Prosecutor’s Office information.

Law enforcement officers arrested the suspect on the same day. He was charged under paragraphs “v” and “m” of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (intentional murder committed with a hooligan motivation and exceptional cruelty), which provides for a punishment of 16 to 20 years or life imprisonment.

“The Prosecutor’s Office will apply to the court within the legally established timeframe with a motion to use detention as a preventive measure for the accused,” the agency stated.
