Prosecutor's Office accuses Aleko Elisashvili of persecution on political grounds

The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office said it had pressed charges against Aleko Elisashvili for persecution based on political grounds.

According to the probe, on December 2nd in Tbilisi, near Kostava Street, Elisashvili “verbally and physically insulted the Chairman of the National Congress of Azerbaijanis of Georgia and one of the founders of the Georgian Dream party.

The charge provides for imprisonment of up to three years.

The Prosecutor’s Office added that it will apply to the Tbilisi City Court to request pre-trial detention as a preventive measure for the accused.
