Prosecutorial Council selected Irakli Shotadze as candidate for post of General Prosecutor
The Prosecutorial Council selected Irakli Shotadze, former Chief Prosecutor of Georgia as the candidate for post of General Prosecutor.
The Prosecutorial Council has 13 acting members and 12 members participated in the balloting. Shotadze received 11 votes through the secret balloting. One vote was received by Sophio Shengelia.
The council had to make the choice among four candidates. The candidates were Valerian Vacharadze, Dariko Tordia, Irakli Shotadze and Sophio Shengelia. The Prosecutorial Council selected 4 candidates on February 6.
Irakli Shotadze held the post of Chief Prosecutor of Georgia in 2015-2018. Shotadze’s candidacy will be presented to the parliament. The parliament will then elect him with the majority of votes. A total of 17 candidates participated in the competition. Two candidates withdrew from the race.
According to Anri Okhanashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of Legal Affairs, some candidates gave good speeches but the former Chief Prosecutor Irakli Shotadze had the best and the most detailed vision about the further development of Prosecutor’s Office.
