Procedural Committee backs early termination of Okhanashvili’s authority
The Committee on Procedural Issues has reviewed the early termination of Anri Okhanashvili’s tenure as Head of the State Security Service. The committee prepared a draft conclusion, which was approved and will now be submitted to the Bureau before being presented to the full Parliament for consideration.
“As you know, the head of the State Security Service resigned voluntarily, outlining the reasons for his decision. In line with procedure, his resignation has been formally submitted to Parliament,” said Davit Matikashvili, Chairman of the Committee on Procedural Issues.
Matikashvili added that, according to the Prime Minister, Okhanashvili will assume the role of advisor, where his expertise and professionalism in security matters will continue to benefit the country, particularly in analytical work. “I would like to wish Mr. Okhanashvili success in his new position,” Matikashvili said.
The committee also discussed the nomination of Mamuka Mdinaradze as the new Head of the State Security Service. His candidacy will undergo the standard hearing process within the Defense Committee before being put to a parliamentary vote.
“I am confident that Mr. Mdinaradze, a high-level professional with extensive experience in law enforcement and leadership qualities, will receive full support from Parliament,” Matikashvili added.
Anri Okhanashvili resigned from his post on August 23. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has nominated Mamuka Mdinaradze to succeed him as Head of the State Security Service.
