Procedural Affairs Committee Chair views hunger strike as counterproductive, urges all parties to prepare for elections

“Attempts to intimidate society with a hunger strike with the purpose to prompt it to make a desirable decision are counterproductive,” said Davit Matikashvili, Chair of the parliamentary Procedural Affairs Committee.

According to Matikashvili, opponents should stop taking useless and incorrect steps and prepare for elections, which will demonstrate the quality of their support.

“Participation in elections and the desire to win the polls is a democratic process in politics. All other efforts – be it moral or physical pressure on society, bullying, or intimidation with the aim to prompt people to make a desirable decision- are counterproductive.

Therefore, I wish everyone strong health and urge them to stop making useless and incorrect steps and prepare for elections, which will demonstrate whom the society supports,” said Matikashvili.

On June 27, Elene Khoshtaria, leader of the Droa party, announced the start of a hunger strike on Rustaveli Avenue, declaring her readiness to “sacrifice herself to the regime.”
