Prime Minister - Circumstances surrounding the death of Archil Tatunashvili should be immediately determined, all offenders should be held accountable

We consider it necessary the fact to be sharply responded with involvement of the international organizations in order to determine the circumstances in which our citizens were detained and Archil Tatunashvili died, so that all the offenders should be held accountable, – The statement of Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili reads.

The Prime Minister demands immediate release of illegally detained citizens Levan Kutashvili and Ioseb Pavliashvili in Akhalgori.

“First of all, I want to express my deep sorrow over the grave fact which occurred in Tskhinvali today and expresses condolences to Archil Tatunashvili’s family.

On February 22, the occupation regime illegally detained three citizens –  Archil Tatunashvili, Levan Kutashvili and Ioseb Pavliashvili in Akhalgori,. Today, it became known that Archil Tatunashvili died in uncertain circumstances.

Representatives of EU Monitoring Mission and co-chairs of Geneva International Discussions were immediate informed about  the grave fact.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has launched an investigation on the fact of illegal deprivation of liberty and premeditated murder.

We consider it necessary the fact to be sharply responded with involvement of the international organizations in order to determine the circumstances in which our citizens were detained and Archil Tatunashvili died, so that all the offenders should be held accountable.

In addition, it is necessary to establish international mechanisms on human rights and security at the site in order to respond on relevant human rights and other serious violations.

We are demanding the use of all international leverage for immediate release of Levan Kutashvili and Ioseb Pavliashvili, who have been illegally detained in Akhalgori,” – the PM’s statement reads.
