We have no other way and obligation than to stand together and withstand all enemies for the sake of the future, said the Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili at the memorial of the Military Center Members in Tbilisi Vake Park, where 15 Georgian soldiers were awarded the Order of National Hero.
President addressed their descendants and the society, emphasizing the significance of these individuals in Georgia’s history.
Zourabichvili remarked that a century ago, these soldiers were put to death in Vake Park while valiantly fighting for the independence and freedom of Georgia.
“In 1922, the Military Center and the Independence Committee emerged, encompassing all political parties of the time. The Military Center played a pivotal role in orchestrating the main rebellion. Consequently, on May 21, 1923, at 04:30 in the morning, the 15 individuals we honour today were executed here in Vake Park.
These individuals hold profound significance in our history, symbolizing the struggle that unfolded in the following years. Throughout this period, a resilient spirit marked various powerful episodes of this struggle, ensuring that no Georgian lost hope for the return of independence and freedom.
Therefore, we have an obligation to these people, not only today, when we give the title of national hero to their descendants and introduce their names to society. We must continue to pass on their stories to future generations. A nation that is unfamiliar with its history is gradually losing its identity and spiritual strength,” the President said.
