President: Kazakhstan and Georgia to sign strategic partnership document outlining capabilities of both countries
Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili summed up his visit to Astana, Kazakhstan. According to the President, the Regional Ecological Summit 2026 was well-organized and focused on environmental protection issues and challenges.
President Kavelashvili said he thanked the government and the president of Kazakhstan for organizing high-level summit in collaboration with the UN. He went on to say that environmental protection indeed faces challenges not only for states, but also for communities and citizens.
Heads of government from Middle Asia and the South Caucasus attended the summit. He noted that the summit would continue for two days and ministers and representatives from different countries would continue to participate in the process.
“We have our role since we care for our environment. Before the summit, we visited a pavilion where the Middle Asian countries were represented with new projects. Significantly, Georgia participated in this high-level summit, and we hope that this process will continue. We have our role in the protection of the environment and ecology. In my speech, I stated that we are involved in this process. All this is accompanied by our declared peace policy and stable situation, in parallel with economic growth, which everyone celebrates together, because this process is interconnected, inclusive, and everyone is involved in it.
Military hostilities are ongoing in the surroundings, there is tension and against the backdrop of such challenges, it seems like why should we be concerned about ecology, but all of this is connected to our world, people, and states, which they treat with great understanding. We had a separate meeting with leaders, and it is significant that we have good relations with almost all the Middle Asian countries.
Besides ecology, you know that the issue of the Middle Corridor is very attractive, gaining significance. This process is inconceivable without Georgia, and we all agree on that. Our country has vast potential,” he said.
Mikheil Kavelashvili explained that during the meeting with the President of Kazakhstan, the sides agreed that Georgia and Kazakhstan would shortly sign a strategic partnership document outlining the capabilities of both countries based on mutual benefit.
