President Kavelashvili: Restoration of autocephaly of Georgian Orthodox Church is fundamental milestone for our nation
“On March 25, 1917, the restoration of the autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Church held profound symbolic significance alongside its practical importance, as on this day the Georgian Church regained its independence, uniting the nation and the clergy,” Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili shared this reflection on social media.
President Mikheil Kavelashvili emphasised that the restoration of autocephaly was a pivotal event in the nation’s life.
“Today marks a special chapter in the history of our country and nation. It is the day of the restoration of the autocephaly of the Georgian Apostolic Orthodox Church.
The restoration of the autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Church is a vital event for our nation. It is particularly poignant that we are commemorating this significant date without our spiritual father, His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II.
On March 25, 1917, the restoration of the Church’s autocephaly held not only great practical significance but also profound symbolic meaning, symbolising the moment when the Georgian Church regained its independence and once again united the nation and the clergy. This historic event reaffirmed the Georgian people’s loyalty to their faith, traditions, and spiritual values.
We wish you peace, unity, and spiritual strength, especially in these challenging times. May the Lord strengthen our country and the Church, so that we may continue to serve our homeland and our traditions with dignity in the years to come,” Kavelashvili wrote.
