President Kavelashvili praises efforts to ensure fair pay and better social conditions for teachers
“In addition to the immense gratitude they deserve from every citizen of this country, the work of teachers must be properly recognised, and we must do everything possible to support this,” stated Mikheil Kavelashvili, President of Georgia, during his speech at the awards ceremony for the National Teacher’s Award winners.
As the President highlighted, he warmly welcomes any initiative aimed at providing teachers with decent pay and improving their social conditions.
“I support any effort to ensure fair remuneration for teachers and to enhance their social standing. I back every initiative that seeks to further motivate and encourage them. In recent years, the government has taken truly significant steps in this direction; one example being the establishment of the National Teacher’s Award. I am pleased that this initiative, introduced two years ago, has received such a positive reception from society. I am confident that its scope will expand each year, involving even more educators in this meaningful process,” Mikheil Kavelashvili said.
The President also drew attention to a new initiative by the Minister of Education, Science and Youth.
“It is also worth noting that, as part of the Minister’s initiative, for the first time this year, five outstanding teachers from each municipality across Georgia were selected and honoured, many of whom are here today. I would like to warmly greet each of you,” added Kavelashvili.
The President once again congratulated the laureates of the National Teacher’s Award and expressed gratitude for their selfless love for their homeland and children.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the laureates of the National Teacher’s Award for this well-deserved recognition, awarded in honour of their exceptional contributions to society and the education system. To every Georgian teacher, I wish to once more express my deepest gratitude for your selfless dedication to our homeland and children. Your invaluable work helps shape our future. I wish you success and boundless energy to raise many more patriotic and worthy Georgians for our country,” he concluded.
The event was attended by Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, Minister of Education, Science and Youth Givi Mikanadze, representatives of both the executive and legislative branches, and distinguished guests.
National Teacher’s Day is celebrated annually on October 27. On this day, outstanding teachers are honoured with the National Teacher’s Award, a medal and cash prize, in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the development of Georgia’s education system.
