Preparations for Independence Day continue at Liberty Square

Preparations for the main Independence Day celebration are underway at Liberty Square, where a dress rehearsal took place today.

According to the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, the rehearsal was attended by Vice Prime Minister and Defense Minister Irakli Chikovani, First Deputy Minister Paata Patiashvili, and senior Defense Forces officials. The military preparations were led by Lieutenant General Giorgi Matiashvili, Commander of the Defense Forces. Command heads and the event director reviewed and finalized key details on-site.

Alongside Defense Forces personnel, National Military Service conscripts also participated in the rehearsal. These recruits will take their military oath in a solemn ceremony on May 26 and officially join the Defense Forces. In addition to Liberty Square, oath-taking ceremonies will be held at five other historic locations across the country.

On May 26, the public will have the opportunity to view military equipment, weapons, and gear in 21 cities and municipalities, including Tbilisi, Gori, Akhaltsikhe, Mtskheta, Rustavi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Ozurgeti, Poti, Khoni, Ambrolauri, Batumi, Telavi, Akhalkalaki, Marneuli, Senaki, Samtredia, Bagdati, Chkhorotskhu, Abasha, and Martvili.

The ceremonial event at Liberty Square will conclude with a flyover by aircraft from the Air Defense and Aviation Command.
