Police release two linked to Melikishvili Avenue incident due to injured activists' non-cooperation
Two of the three individuals detained in connection with the incident on Melikishvili Avenue in Tbilisi on September 8-9 have been released. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze stated during a briefing at the ministry.
As Darakhvelidze explained, the injured activists refused to cooperate with the investigation, and based on their testimonies, it was impossible to hold the two detained persons accountable for charges of group violence.
“I would like to inform you about three individuals detained in relation to the events on Melikishvili Avenue in Tbilisi on September 8-9.
The injured activists did not cooperate with the investigation, and their testimonies rendered it impossible to hold the two individuals detained on charges of group violence; consequently, they were released today.
Regarding the citizen detained on charges of property damage, as we understand, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia has already petitioned the court to grant him bail as a preventive measure, and he is expected to be released within a few hours,” Darakhvelidze stated.
