MIA detains three people in connection with Melikishvili Avenue confrontation on September 8-9

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has detained three individuals as part of an ongoing investigation into the incidents that took place on Melikishvili Avenue on September 8 and 9.

According to the MIA statement, the following persons have been detained on charges related to organised violence: Z.M., born in 1965, and I.B., born in 2003. I.D., born in 2002, has been detained on suspicion of damaging or destroying property.

“The evidence collected by the investigation indicates that detainees Z.M. and I.B. physically assaulted participants of the protest on September 8 on Melikishvili Avenue. As for I.D., he is accused of damaging the election banner of the Tbilisi mayoral candidate from the Georgian Dream–Democratic Georgia party on the same avenue.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges all individuals involved in these events to cooperate fully with the investigation and to report to the relevant department upon summons.

The investigation is proceeding under Part One of Article 126, Part One of Article 162, and Article 187 of the Criminal Code.

In addition, the Ministry continues intensive investigative efforts to identify other persons involved in these criminal acts and to ensure they are brought to justice. Every violation of the law will be met with an appropriate legal response,” the Ministry stated.
