Police detain two individuals over murder in Mestia

Police have detained two people in connection with an incident in Mestia municipality.

According to the inquiry, on January 5th, the accused robbed two foreign nationals travelling from Zugdidi to Mestia. The perpetrators grabbed cell phones, shot one victim, and tossed the body into a river before fleeing. Law enforcement discovered the body of foreign citizen V.S. in the Nakra River in Mestia municipality.

The inquiry is being conducted under the Criminal Code’s Articles 179, 19-109, and 236. The felony carries a punishment of 16-20 years or life in prison.
