Police arrest 37 for illegal firearms and ammunition offences

Over the past three days, operational and investigative efforts across Tbilisi and the surrounding regions have resulted in the arrest of 37 individuals on charges related to the illegal purchase, storage, and carriage of significant quantities of firearms and ammunition, announced David Kiknadze, Director of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Kiknadze explained that such offences carry a penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment.

“Through comprehensive investigative actions and with judicial approval, police have seized dozens of firearms and various types of ammunition during searches of the suspects’ personal and residential properties, auxiliary buildings, and vehicles,” Kiknadze stated.

“The investigation is proceeding under Parts 3 and 4 of Article 236 of Georgia’s Criminal Code. To maintain public order and safety, officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are operating around the clock across the country, implementing necessary law enforcement measures,” he added.
