Police apprehend two foreign nationals for illicit arms trafficking

Officers from the Batumi Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), in collaboration with the Prosecutor’s Office, have detained two Turkish nationals following joint investigative efforts into their involvement in the illegal purchase, storage, transportation, and sale of firearms and ammunition.

One of the suspects, born in 1980, has a prior conviction, while the other, born in 1993, is also under investigation.

If found guilty, both could face up to 11 years in prison.

Investigation revealed that the suspects operated as part of a group engaged in the illegal trading of firearms and ammunition.

The police seized several firearms, ammunition, and cash as evidence. The investigation continues under Part 6 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
