PM: Zugdidi State University’s new academic building heralds future of knowledge, growth, and success
“The new academic building of Shota Meskhia Zugdidi State University is a fresh space for knowledge, development, and the future success of our students,” declared Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, during his speech at the opening ceremony of the university’s new academic facility.
According to the Head of Government, this university holds a special significance in Zugdidi for the dissemination of education.
“I would like to extend my congratulations to everyone on this momentous day. Today marks the opening of a vital new infrastructure facility in Zugdidi. This is a modern educational building, a new space for learning, growth, and the future achievements of our students. The university in Zugdidi plays a crucial role in spreading education within the region. It is the only higher education institution here that offers both university degrees and professional programmes. Both are equally vital for the education system and, specifically, for promoting education across this region.
This university trains competitive, highly qualified personnel who will shape the region’s successful future. These graduates will make significant contributions to the ongoing development of our country. Its location near the occupation line lends it particular national importance. The fact that 40 per cent of the students are young people displaced from Abkhazia or residents of villages adjacent to the dividing line underscores the unique mission of your university,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the university’s impressive progress over recent years.
“Just 18 years ago, only 37 students studied here. Today, that number has grown to 2,000, which speaks volumes about the rapid development this university has experienced. This progress must continue. The university has evolved into a fully-fledged institution with strong partnerships, including international collaborations with various foreign universities. Internationalisation is vital, and this process has been supported consistently by the state, especially through significant infrastructure projects over recent years.
Today’s opening is another testament to that commitment. Considerable investment has been made in developing this new infrastructure. I emphasise once again that this facility will enhance the university’s capabilities and provide students with better opportunities to master their knowledge at Shota Meskhia Zugdidi State University. Our support for the university remains a top priority,” concluded Irakli Kobakhidze.
