PM: We are ready and open to reset relations with EU, despite their Soviet-style approaches, closed doors

“The policies of the European bureaucracy have led Europe into a challenging situation with serious trends; they need to reconsider their approach,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told the media.

According to Kobakhidze, “Europe still benefits from the prosperity built over 70 years of uninterrupted peace, but current trends are deeply concerning.”

“The EU’s share of the global economy was 30 per cent in 2008, but it has since fallen to 17 per cent. In such a challenging situation, the focus should be on resolving internal issues and expanding relations as much as possible. Yet, instead of fostering cooperation, there is an effort to artificially sever ties with countries like Georgia. This is not in the EU’s genuine interests, revealing that European bureaucracy is driven by external influences rather than the community’s best interests. This external influence, akin to a ‘Deep State’, has weakened in the United States but has shifted focus to the EU. The absence of Marta Kos in Georgia continues this trend.

I sincerely hope that once the war in Ukraine ends, these approaches will change. From our side, we remain fully open to resetting relations with the European Union. Despite encountering closed doors and silence, reminiscent of Soviet tactics, we are ready to move forward. These outdated Soviet-style approaches must be corrected,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
