PM vows to regulate pharmaceutical market

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili vowed to regulate the pharmaceutical market when presenting the 2021 government annual report.

PM said the approach to the increased prices on drugs had to change to reduce the expenses of medicines paid by citizens from their pockets.

“Protection of human rights is one of the top priorities of our government. From next year, a new human rights strategy will be submitted to the parliament, which aims to strengthen the highest standard of human rights,” said Irakli Gharibashvili.

Speaking about the epidemiological situation, PM said that the government imported approximately 5 million World Health Organization (WHO) authorized Covid vaccines and led active immunization campaign. He said over 2 million people received the jabs but it was not enough.

“I call on everybody to vaccinate since it is the only safe and effective way to protect ourselves and our relatives. Let us defeat the pandemic together,” PM said.

PM said the state healthcare program financing will increase by GEL 20 million from 2022.
