PM: Specific person involved in case proves Ukraine’s Special Services involved in explosives import

“A specific person involved in the case confirmed the explosive substance was imported into Georgia on the instructions of the Ukrainian special services, which is very regrettable,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in response to a journalist’s question regarding the explosives case.

“This is very regrettable for us. In general, such a rude attitude towards our state is regrettable, but what can we say when we have already heard direct statements from high-ranking Ukrainian officials expressing their wish to see a second front in Georgia? Despite this, we remain in a unilateral friendship regime with the Ukrainian authorities, considering the situation in that country,” Kobakhidze said.

The State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained two Ukrainian citizens in connection with the incident.

According to the SSSG, on September 10, a Mercedes-Benz truck with Ukrainian license plates crossed into Georgia via Romania and Bulgaria, entering through the Sarpi customs checkpoint. During inspection, 2.4 kilograms of the explosive substance Hexogen were discovered hidden in concealed compartments.

The agency also reported that, based on operational materials, the explosives’ final destination was Tbilisi, specifically a residential building in the Avlabari district.
