Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze held a meeting at Mikheil Meskhi Stadium to review the concept for the development of sports infrastructure, including Tbilisi’s new stadium, with representatives from the sports society.
The meeting was attended by Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, Sports Minister Shalva Gogoladze, and Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Irakli Karseladze.
The proposed multi-functional stadium, designed to modern standards, will be built in the suburbs of Tbilisi and will have the capacity to accommodate up to 70,000 spectators, making it suitable for high-level football and rugby tournaments.
In addition to sports events, the facility will feature concert and conference infrastructure, which is expected to enhance the country’s tourist appeal and attract investments.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the sports society’s perspectives in shaping the stadium’s concept. He noted that the new project will serve as “an image project” for Tbilisi and all of Georgia, especially as the country has applied to host the UEFA Champions League finals.
A Dutch company will provide consulting services to the government for the new stadium construction, and UEFA experts will be involved in developing the stadium’s concept.
Irakli Kobakhidze mentioned that the government plans to construct new stadiums in 40 municipalities.
