PM reveals willingness of European leaders to reassess relations and discuss Georgia’s EU aspirations
The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, has reflected on his recent visit to Copenhagen, where he took part in the European Political Community (EPC) Summit.
As Kobakhidze shared with journalists, several senior European leaders expressed their openness to reviewing relations with Georgia and engaging in comprehensive discussions concerning the country’s aspirations for European Union membership.
“We have concluded our visit, which was conducted within a very engaging format. We held bilateral meetings, including a direct discussion with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe and the Secretary General of the OSCE. I also delivered a speech during a panel discussion centred on economic and connectivity issues.
The most valuable aspect was the opportunity to speak directly with over thirty leaders. We discussed national interests and the importance of reviewing the relationship between Georgia and the European Union. It was particularly encouraging that many high-ranking officials expressed their willingness to reassess our relations and open a dialogue on all matters related to Georgia’s EU ambitions. This provides a very positive impetus. We await further developments.
Of course, we reaffirmed our complete readiness for such public, open, and transparent discussions. This is essential and unconditional if we are to strengthen our ties with the EU. This was one of the main issues we raised, although there were also initiatives from their side.
Due to confidentiality, I cannot share all the details, but it is promising to see positive signals regarding this matter. We will await how events unfold. Our primary foreign policy goal remains integration into the European Union, which cannot be achieved without constructive dialogue.
Therefore, once again, we emphasise our readiness to engage in meaningful, open discussions with EU institutions on all relevant topics,” Irakli Kobakhidze concluded.
