PM participates in Multilateral Partnership Summit held within UNGA 81 Session

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze participated in the Multilateral Partnership Summit, held within the framework of the high-level week of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.

At the summit, opened by President of the European Council António Costa, the PM focused on the importance of international peace, security and conflict prevention.

According to the Government Administration, in his speech, Irakli Kobakhidze accentuated the challenges facing international stability and emphasized the necessity of multilateral partnership to promote conflict prevention and peaceful resolution.

The Prime Minister also touched upon the situation in Georgia and the region in his address.

“The ongoing occupation of 20 per cent of Georgia’s territory affects the lives and rights of local communities. We remain committed to the peaceful resolution of the conflict, including through de-occupation, reconciliation and building trust among conflict-affected people. International support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity remains a crucial part of this process. Effective multilateralism also requires closer regional cooperation. Countries in the same region face common challenges in security and economics and closer cooperation provides an opportunity to respond to these challenges more effectively. The South Caucasus is undergoing a period of significant change, and increasing attention is being paid to its economic and strategic potential. Today, broader opportunities exist for practical regional cooperation. We welcome the progress achieved in the peace process between our neighbors and believe that enhanced regional cooperation can create new opportunities in areas such as trade, connectivity and economic development,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia, adding that the country remains committed to upholding the principles necessary to achieve lasting peace and prosperity.

A declaration was adopted at the summit, highlighting the vital importance of joint efforts, respect for the principles of international law and multilateral partnership amidst growing pressure on the world order.
