NCDC issues statement on recent increase in cases of gastroenteritis across Tbilisi

“Studies have now confirmed that the recent surge in cases of gastroenteritis across Tbilisi was caused by Norovirus,” reads the statement issued by the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC).

According to the NCDC, the majority of children observed with the virus have recovered and been discharged from clinics. It added that

“The cases proceeded without any complications. Monitoring is ongoing, and no risk of complications has emerged.

To contain the further spread of the disease, it is recommended to pay attention to hand hygiene—especially before eating and after using the toilet. This recommendation is particularly addressed to those whose family members or close contacts have had the disease,” it said.

The NCDC urged hydration, observing a strict diet, consuming dairy products and taking pills against vomiting for at least 3-4 days.
