President Kavelashvili attends WFER IX opening

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili attended the opening ceremony of the 9th World Forum on Energy Regulation (WFER IX).

According to the Presidential Administration, representatives of legislative and executive authorities, the Chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) and representatives of international and donor organizations and energy unions participated in the opening.

President Kavelashvili focused on the significance of energy independence amidst the contemporary geopolitical environment and state sovereignty and national security.

Kavelashvili emphasized that Georgia has the potential to develop its own resources and strengthen its role within the energy space connecting Europe and Asia.

“We live in an epoch where global energy security, a healthy investment environment, and utilization of renewable energies represent a precondition for the development of each state.

By joining the European Energy Community and regulating the energy market, Georgia has established a transparent, competitive, and predictable regulatory framework that ensures the protection of consumer rights and investor confidence,” Mikheil Kavelashvili said.

The President highlighted the Black Sea submarine electricity cable project, which will create a new opportunity for Georgia’s energy connectivity with Europe and facilitate the development of the South Caucasus as a regional green energy hub.

He stressed that hosting the 9th World Forum on Energy Regulation (WFER IX) in Tbilisi once again highlights Georgia’s importance in fostering dialogue on international cooperation and energy security.

The 9th World Forum on Energy Regulation (WFER IX) is taking place in Tbilisi, Georgia, from September 21 to 24, 2026. The forum will host approximately 1000 high-ranking guests from different countries.
