PM: Opposition can hold any march, but was it one opposing EU candidate status

“The opposition is planning a march on Europe Day. Georgia is a democracy, and they have the right to hold any demonstration they choose. However, this very opposition previously opposed Georgia’s bid for EU candidate status,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.

As Kobakhidze pointed out, they were actively campaigning against Georgia’s acceptance of the EU candidate status.

“Naturally, we doubt their sincerity. It was this very opposition that actively opposed Georgia’s bid for candidate status. They boycotted the working groups, which were crucial for us to receive candidate status in 2023. Without any justification, they obstructed the process. We question their motives, but this is democracy—it’s their right to hold a march,” Irakli Kobakhidze stated.
