PM opens ice arena in Batumi

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, alongside Chairman of the Adjara Autonomous Republic Government Tornike Rizhvadze, opened an ice arena of international standards in Batumi city.

According to the Government Administration, the PM inspected the ice ring, met athletes and stated that “similar infrastructure will give additional impetus to youngsters to engage in sports.”

“The newly-built ice ring in Batumi is envisaged to accommodate up to 1,500 spectators. Winter Youth Olympic Festival will be held here from tomorrow. This is a significant infrastructure both for the entire country and Batumi. Approximately 450 youngsters are engaged in this sport in Batumi and the new ice ring will give additional impetus to children and youngsters to actively engage in this sport,” he said.

Along with the ice arena, the complex also includes a swimming pool, which will start operating by the end of the year. The total cost of the project is 53,943,280 GEL.

The 2025 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival will be held between 9 and 16 February 2025. In addition to Bakurani, events will take place in Batumi and Tbilisi as auxiliary venues.
