Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has congratulated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Georgia’s Independence Day, according to information released by Georgia’s government administration press service.

Netanyahu said Israel and Georgia have maintained “special ties for centuries, based on shared values and deep historical connections.”

“Mr Prime Minister, on behalf of the State of Israel, I warmly congratulate the Georgian people on Independence Day, 26 May,” the Israeli leader wrote in his congratulatory letter.

“Israel and Georgia have had special relations for centuries, which are based on our common values and deep historical ties. In recent years, the close ties between our countries have also been characterised by a sharp increase in tourism, which is an important means of cultural exchange and mutually beneficial activity.

I take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the tolerance that you and your government show towards the Jewish community in Georgia,” Netanyahu stated in his message.
