Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia, met representatives of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR), the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and the European Students’ Union (ESU).
At the meeting, the Prime Minister spoke about the fundamental changes planned in the field of education and noted that the reform aims at a qualitative transformation of the higher education system. He emphasised the importance of the active involvement and support of international partners in the further development of Georgia’s education system.
Attention was drawn to increasing access to quality education, implementing teaching and research processes tailored to students’ needs, correctly setting priorities in higher education and the importance of the internationalisation of the higher education system.
The meeting, held at the Government Administration, was attended by Douglas Blackstock, President of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA); Stephane Lauwick, President of the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR); Aleksandar Susnjar, Director of EQAR; Ricardo León-Bórquez, President of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME); Harm Peters, President of the Association of Medical Schools in Europe (AMSE); Vesna Dodikovic-Jurković, President of the Central and Eastern European Network of Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (CEENQA); and Maurizio Tira, member of the European University Association (EUA).
Representatives of international associations and networks in the field of education are in Tbilisi as part of an international conference.
