PM: Kvesheti-Kobi highway to be completed in 1.5 years, project will boost economy

In about a year and a half, the Kvesheti-Kobi highway will be fully completed, significantly easing travel to Stepantsminda and Kazbegi municipalities, the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists. He noted that the new road will ensure safe and comfortable movement throughout all four seasons.

During his visit to Mtskheta-Mtianeti today, the Prime Minister inspected ongoing construction works on the highway.

“This is one of the most challenging sections—a 23-kilometre stretch that includes a unique nine-kilometre tunnel and two major bridges currently under construction. We inspected the works on site. Once completed, in about a year and a half, travel to Stepantsminda and Kazbegi will become much easier and safer in every season. This project is of great importance for the country, both economically and socially,” Kobakhidze said.

As part of his visit, the Prime Minister also attended the opening of the rehabilitated Dusheti school.

“The school has been completely renovated, and I would like to congratulate the children and teachers on beginning the year in this renewed environment. We also visited Mtskheta, where the museum has been restored and will soon be fully opened, with all exhibits on display. This is a significant development for the region and for Mtskheta municipality in particular,” he added.
