PM Kobakhidze stresses need for restoring political system, says lawsuit on political participation to be filed in Constitutional Court shortly

“In a situation where the only real opposition to the ruling team is a criminal political force such as the ‘collective United National Movement,’ it is clear that a healthy democratic system cannot be established. That is why we must restore our democratic and political framework, and this is precisely what the lawsuit set to be filed in the Constitutional Court in the coming days aims to achieve,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze emphasised the urgent need to overhaul Georgia’s political system in a media appearance.

Kobakhidze emphasised that the government’s main priority is to submit a proper and well-founded lawsuit to the Constitutional Court, with the aim of restoring Georgia’s democratic foundations once and for all.

“Some technical issues in the legislation have been clarified,” Kobakhidze explained.

“But the main priority for us is to file a proper lawsuit with the Constitutional Court to ensure the complete restoration of our democratic system. In a situation where the only real opposition to the ruling team is a criminal political force such as the ‘collective United National Movement,’ it is clear that a healthy democratic system cannot be established. Therefore, we need to improve our political system, and this lawsuit, which will be filed in just a few days, is a crucial step towards that goal. The exact date of the filing will be announced as soon as it happens,” the Prime Minister concluded.
