PM Kobakhidze: May 17 will be special day as Georgia celebrates 1,700 years of Christianity as state religion
“May 17 will be a special day. This year, we celebrate the 1,700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as Georgia’s official religion,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.
He emphasised that the government will take part in all pertinent ceremonies.
“Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Shio III will lead the service, and, accordingly, this year will hold particular significance for our country. Naturally, the government will participate in all relevant commemorations,” Kobakhidze added.
For your information, on May 17, a procession associated with the Day of Family Purity will take place, from Kashueti Cathedral to the Holy Trinity Cathedral. Catholicos-Patriarch Shio III of All Georgia will officiate the inaugural festive service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, with delegations from various churches in attendance.
